Fix Update Problems In Your Windows Computer

Microsoft lets users equip the operating systems with the latest security and application patches through a special service called Windows Update. Microsoft recommends users to perform Windows Update at regular intervals to make sure that your Windows system is up-to-date, with all the necessary updates and program fixes. These updates are necessary for the smooth and efficient functioning of your Windows computer.
Sometimes, even after performing several troubleshooting steps, your system may respond in the strangest way. In such cases, a system update should do the trick for you. However, you might still encounter problems while performing Windows Update. Your computer might download the available updates but may fail to install them. • Review the installation history. Go to the Start menu and select All Programs. Locate and select the option Windows Update or Microsoft Update from the menu. Select Review your update history. Locate the update that has a red X indicating that it is a failed update. Click the red X. You will see an installation error code in a new dialog box. Write it down on a piece of paper.
• Navigate back to the main window for the Windows Update. Select the option Go to Knowledge Base articles. Type the error code you recorded in the last step in the search box and press Enter. Click on the link in the search result. You will be directed to a Knowledge Base article on Microsoft website. Follow the instructions step-by-step to troubleshoot that very specific failed update.
• Scan your computer with a built-in tool called Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool. Go to the Start menu and select Run. Type “MRT” without the quotes and hit the Enter key. Click on Next when you see the welcome screen. Select Full Scan and let the program scan your computer for malware that may be hampering your Windows Update. Follow the on-screen prompts to remove such malware.
• Use an antivirus and/or antispyware program and run a complete scan of your computer. You may use the one that is already installed on your computer. If you do not have one, download one immediately. AVG, Norton and Avira offer free downloads and trials.
